The colour charts given in the photos should be treated as a guide only as monitors can vary. The first photo shows what the dyes look like when ice dying and the second photo when liquid dying.

The dyes are presented in eco-friendly strong Kraft paper material which are able to stand alone. The bag comes sealed with a tear notch at the top and then can be resealed via a zip lock closure to ensure the dyes can be stored securely. Instructions

Item preparation
The first and most important step is that the clothing to be dyed needs to be washed on a 30 degree cycle. All clothing comes with a sizing chemical that repels the dye so this is required to ensure the item retains the dye colour. Once washed you will need to soak it in soda ash for around 15 minutes which aids the dye to bond with the cotton fibres. This can be bought from most supermarkets in the cleaning aisle for a low price. The final step in prepping the clothing is to then put it on a spin cycle to ring out the excess water from the previous two steps. The clothing is now ready to be tied & dyed.

Tie and dye techniques
There are a vast array of various tie and dye techniques to produce the most stunning designs. The internet is full of step by step instructions so get creating and brighten up your wardrobe. It is difficult to advise the estimated measurement of fabric that can be dyed per gram of dye powder as these depend on the product you are dyeing along with other factors such as pattern, vibrancy expectation and dye colour. For example, for New Black we double the weight compared to other dye colours. For items wished to have a pastel colour appearance these will use less dye/more water compared to when you want more brighter end products. We always advise to experiment on a non valuable piece of garment to find your perfect vibrancy.

Please note these dyes will not work on synthetics such as polyester. If using on a cotton blend with polyester then we recommend that the cotton % will need to be at least 70%

As a guide we use 2g of dye with 78ml of water (double for New Black) and will use varying amounts of this depending on what design/pattern we are producing.

If using dye technique whereby dye powder is mixed in a bottle with water then we suggest wrapping the item post dyeing in cling film and leaving for 24 hours on a rack next to a hot radiator. This allows the dyes to fully bind with the cotton fibres and the heat results in a more vibrant colour on the end product. Afterwards the clothing is rinsed out in the sink then re-washed on another 30 degree cycle to remove any excess dye.
